How Removal Costs and Quotes Work
A defensible removal price is a plan for a particular job, not a bedroom-count guess. Volume matters, but so do weight, awkward items, walking distance, stairs, parking, route time and the services requested. Give the same complete information to every company if you want a useful comparison.

Inventory and handling
A detailed item list estimates vehicle space and the work required to protect, carry, load and unload it. Two homes with the same bedroom count can differ widely: one may contain flat-pack furniture and twenty boxes, the other solid wardrobes, gym equipment and a full garage. State quantities, approximate sizes and whether large items dismantle. Pianos, safes, pool tables, motorcycles and similarly specialist items need individual planning; ordinary sofas and wardrobes should still be described accurately rather than treated as invisible extras.
Access at both addresses
Floor, lift availability, stair shape, door width, carry distance and legal parking position affect elapsed time. A vehicle fifty metres from the door creates repeated walking on every load. A lift can help, but booking windows, dimensions and sharing rules matter. Send photographs or video where access is unclear. Confirm who arranges permits or bay suspensions and whether the quote includes the council fee, an administration charge, both or neither. The destination needs the same scrutiny as collection.
Route, date and extra services
A good plan includes travel from the operating base, every stop, the return journey where relevant and realistic traffic for the date and vehicle. Ferry, toll, clean-air, congestion and parking charges should be named rather than hidden as zero. Packing, materials, dismantling, reassembly, storage, waiting and additional collections are separate work even when supplied by the same company. Ask whether the amount is fixed, indicative or hourly, and exactly which declared facts could change it.
Compare the whole offer
Check the legal company name, insurance scope, cancellation terms, payment milestones and who will perform the move. A low headline can be poor value if ordinary access, VAT where applicable, materials or return travel appear later. Keep the accepted inventory and scope with the confirmation. If the move changes, request a revised written amount before the day. OX uses the full quote journey to collect these details and routes unsupported or uncertain cases for staff review rather than presenting an unverified payable figure.
